2050 Urban Forest Strategy - Our vision for all our trees and woodlands

Consultation has concluded

This consultation has now closed.

We consulted on the draft Urban Forest Strategy from 6 November to 17 December 2023. You can read the consultation results here.

You can read the Cabinet agenda item here(External link) and see the decision details here(External link).

The public consultation helped formulate the strategy, identifying how important factors such as supporting wildlife, combating climate change or improving air quality are to people. A key thread being there are not enough trees where they are needed most. This was supported by the Tree Equity Scores within the strategy and will help focus efforts through a working group to implement change.

Having Your Say on our draft Urban Forest Strategy

The draft Urban Forest Strategy has been shaped by engagement with residents and key stakeholders and developed by a working group involving key council services and partners. It provides a vision, key guiding principles and priorities for action to ensure that the decisions we make allow for all residents, visitors, and businesses in our conurbation to get the most from trees both now and in the future.

The draft strategy underpins the need to care, support and invest in our trees. This is needed throughout our diverse network of streets, parks, and council-owned green spaces. It is also important to recognise the impact we can all make as individuals, by planting, nurturing, and protecting trees. It also acknowledges the significant role BCP Council, and its partners, will play over the coming years, and proposes the creation of the BCP Tree Charter, where everyone can play a key role.

Respondents were asked to read the draft strategy or our Executive Summary document and then answer the questions in our survey to tell us your views on the vision and principles, as well as what actions you think are important and any other suggestions you have. They could also suggest any other actions using our ideas wall.

The consultation closed at 11:59 pm on Sunday 17 December 2023.

The survey was available in alternative formats on request..
