Our vision consultation ran from 10 August - 22 October. A wide range of methods were used to engage with residents and stakeholders on our draft vision, priorities and key objectives including:
Online survey, ideas wall and 'tell us your story' what's it like living in the BCP area
Paper copies of the survey were available in libraries
Eleven drop in roadshows in town centres / supermarkets and CastlePoint at our universities and colleges.
A children and young people questionnaire and activity and competition was run.
Three stakeholder events for Town and Parish Councils, Community Voluntary Sector and Residents' Associations were held
We changed the vision statement from "Our vision - where nature, coast, communities and towns come together to create a healthy and sustainable environment" to "Our vision - where people, nature, coast and towns come together in sustainable, safe and healthy communities
There was wide spread agreement for our two priorities and the wording changed to read
Our place and environment Vibrant places, where people and nature flourish, with a thriving economy in a healthy, natural environment Our people and communities Everyone leads a fulfilled life, maximising opportunity for all
We received feedback that we had set too many ambitions and that some could be reworded and merged.
Below is the draft vision document that we sent out to consultation

BCP have really let the ball drop. Noted by a national newspaper as one of the most corrupt councils in Britain and rebuked by the Government over poor money management, bickering and incompetence. Just walk through Bournemouth Gardens, the square and up or down different streets of the square. There are so many people begging, many of whom are sadly addicted to substances or drink. Some can be intimidating, even if they do not know it, especially to the elderly or women on their own. Crime has dramatically increased. Is there a week where murder is not reported in the... What has happened to the proposed policy to fine inconsiderate motorists for parking their vehicles on pavements? I believe this was considered within the past two years, but nothing has happened.
Offenders create a hazard, especially for the elderly, people with impaired sight and mothers with young children. (Highway Code Rule 244 refers)
It would raise much needed revenue and hopefully rid our pavements/walkways of these antisocial vehicle owners' vehicles.
Although some super cycle paths/lanes have been installed in recent years, many of the existing ones are being neglected. I'm a regular cyclist and always use the paths/lanes provided, but during spring and summer months nearby foliage is not kept cut back. Old Wareham Road and Dorset Way are just two examples of this problem.
If you want to encourage cycling, it's not just new cycle ways that will do it. You MUST maintain the nearby vegetation too!
I do find the idea of feeling safe very important.
I used to love Bournemouth, but now don't feel safe at all. If I walk through the gardens I get stopped and asked for money. There are always people sitting in the gardens who look unsavoury and are very loud. I know begging is illegal but still people are asking for money continually.
I suggest there is a hub either in the gardens or square where you can go if you feel intimidated or not safe.
These people that beg obviously get money otherwise they wouldn't do it.
I have lived here since 1959 and am really saddened by the degeneration happening in this once lovely town.It wouldn't be feasible to turn the clock back but we should at least have a council that understands the needs of most importantly the residents who pay their council taxes. We know that we live in a lovely area and pay dearly for that privilege. Visitors are an important asset to any seaside location. It is abundantly clear that BCP haven't looked after our town with any best intentions and appear to be coerced by all kinds of ridiculous plans. What... Continue reading
I have lived all my life since I was 8 years old, and it was lovely in Poole. It could be again – the town needs to be more inviting for people. Also, the on-street parking bays, in my opinion, should be for residents only, and not have the two-hour parking limit on given the parking provision for visitors to go and park in the multi-storey car park. Of course, I appreciate that there need to be healthcare workers and other parking in order to help vulnerable people, but car parking needs to become more available and more affordable.
Having lived in bournemouth for 38 years it's very sad to see its decline. Tourists take priority over residents. Local play parks for local residents are being taken away, no replacements, in the middle of a 6 week school holiday, local grass in the football fields not cut, my grandsons can't even play football, grass too long.
The verges, the streets all over grown with weeds, I phone up BCP to be told they are cut 4 times yearly, ridiculous, don't give me excuse of meadows, look at it now its dry dead grasses, no bees!!!!!!!
I have lived in Bournemouth since 1959 and feel sad to see the state of once beautiful town now, I feel the following should be addressed, drug taking/dealing, now rife, law and order, use of e-scooters many ridden illegally with often 2 passengers, rarely punished, road surfaces, fly tipping (rubbish and furniture just dumped on street corners), empty retail units and too many flats, especially student accommodation who do not contribute council tax, but receive all the services. All these factors give the wrong impression to our visitors who are now diminishing in numbers. Remember Bournemouth you don't get a... Continue reading
We have lived here for 30 years and disappointing to see the town being systematically destroyed by Council policies
There is no pride in keeping the town clean and tidy ...rubbish on streets, weeds along roadsides, gardens not maintained - have a look at Boscombe Cliff Gardens
The biggest asset the town has are the beaches, preserve the natural beauty, we don't need these pop up venues on the beach
With so many beach huts and house to flat conversions the council must be raking in revenue and should be one of the richest councils......get to grip with the finances!
I have lived in Bournemouth all my life and for 50 years in my present home. Over my lifetime the town has changed a lot. The town centre is now a sad place and only the gardens continue to give pleasure. in the area where I live it has never been so dirty and unkempt. The weeds and litter in the kerbsides are a disgrace in many areas of the town. Road sweeping is a rare occurrence. Pride in the town needs to be restored!
