Green Infrastructure Strategy Engagement

This engagement has now closed.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has recently signed up to a set of goals and principles within our Green Infrastructure Strategy(External link) that sets our ambitions for investing in green infrastructure across BCP over the next ten years.

The goals of the strategy are to make best use of Green Infrastructure to:

1. Encourage healthy living and well-being

2. Strengthen resilience to climate change

3. Support nature recovery and biodiversity

4. Support economic recovery, prosperity and placemaking

We’ll deliver this through 4 main principles:

1. Rethinking the future of parks and green spaces - increasing the functionality of spaces as natural health centres and green living rooms, rewilding urban greenspaces and promoting nature-based solutions to help adapt to a changing climate

2. Connecting the Green Net - strengthening nature recovery and green travel networks and creating two new landscape-scale countryside and coastal parks

3. Greening the urban environment - green roofs/walls, greener streets/public realm and celebrating trees, and embedding green infrastructure into new housing and regeneration areas

4. Championing green infrastructure - advocating green infrastructure benefits and changing mindsets for a greener future

You can find more information in the Green Infrastructure Strategy Summary.

Have Your Say

This engagement focused primarily on the third principle 'greening the urban environment' and is the area where we asked residents, the public at large, landowners and developers to make a difference to address the Climate and Ecological Emergency.

We know that in some areas there are low levels of accessibility to green space for those who need it most, in other areas there are flooding issues, for others no street trees to help cool their neighbourhoods. We asked for help to understand where a difference could be made and about the level of support for more Green Infrastructure.

We asked respondents to complete an online survey. They could also drop pins, add comments and/or post images on our map of green spaces in BCP.

The engagement closed on Monday 2 January 2023. If respondents had any questions or needed the survey in a different format, they could email environment@bcpcouncil.gov.uk(External link) or call 01202 123123. They could also view our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
