Significant investment into additional extra-care and supported housing units + co-production with disabled people on this strategy
BCP must ensure disabled people are able to find suitable and secure housing, with concrete commitments on increasing the supply of specialist housing especially, but not exclusively, for 18-65 year olds. Current unmet demand must be addressed within both of these groups. Our community are failing to allow disabled people access to independent living, thus forcing us into residential care or remaining in unsuitable housing. Most of all, a lack of co-production on this plan leaves it vulnerable to failure on addressing the causes/concerns of it's third priority (Improve housing options, opportunities and choice for all). Which hits many of our concerns but doesn't recognise, nor correctly identifies, the main problems; inclusion of disabled voices would address this. To put it simply - no conversation about us, without us.

New stock for old
I propose that lots of the old hotel, commercial units and B&B stock are reinvented for housing purposes. Tenants are given financial opportunities like rent to buy deposit schemes, so they can step stone from these renovated plots into new housing stock when it comes online. New housing with eco benefits. To replace the old holiday accommodation stock, I suggest new build, self contained holiday lets, incl. studio, one or two bed apartments, pods, cabins, add variety here etc This way the tourist get new facilities and experiences. The locals get renovated housing in nice locations and the prospects of paying down on their own home one day.

The reality is that there are too many people with complex needs in particular drug and alcohol problems being sent to Bournemouth

I think the whole basis of Central Government dictating Housing targets is wrong and an abuse of local democracy
This will become a major battleground as many have had enough of being told you have to accept higher density housing where you live and there is nothing you can do about it.

Family housing, social housing
There needs to be a good selection available for families - i.e. 2, 3, 4 bedroom houses built in places people want to live and work. Vast increases in housing stock is required. Plus: decent, long-term social housing is required available for capped rents to allow people to save for their futures. Private landlords have pushed rent up to ridiculous levels, so even average wage earners are struggling to save.

Child friendly gardens
Children (and adults!) thrive having some outdoor space. Much of the old housing stock has low 3ft chain link fencing surrounding gardens and the perimeter not secure. It would be great if new builds/old stock that has a garden has 5/6ft high fencing as standard to promote safe play spaces for children.

Housing Needed for families and children who are disabled
Families who have a child/children who are disabled are disadvantaged by lack of larger homes (3/4+ bedrooms) Often when allocated a property it is rarely accessible and need adaptation which can take a further 9-12 months to complete. It would be great to have a range of accessible larger family homes to reduce the risks for families living in high risk situations eg: lifting and carrying their child because they cant use a wheelchair at home/steps/no accessible bathroom.

Listening to peoples needs!
I feel the council really need to take into account people’s living situations. People with bigger families, children with disabilities/needs, need accommodations that are suitable for them! I speak from experience and I know I’m not the only person going through it. I know it’s been tough with covid, but I don’t feel like we are being heard. Being stuck in a tiny 1 bed flat, that only fits a TV cabinet and sofa in the living room, and has NO space for a washing machine, is not ideal when you have a baby in the home. To top it off a cot won’t fit in the bedroom as it’s that small, and the room is filled with damp and mould, which has been complained about many times. Even after various healthcare professionals are involved, expressing their concerns that the property is not suitable and appealing their decision, still no change. I just can’t understand how people are prioritised based on their needs, when they don’t take all needs into consideration. I think the policies also need to be updated, as it states in the Poole housing policy that split families is a need, yet I was told by two different housing officers that it is not considered in Poole. Yet it is written in black and white on their website. More houses need to be built for families, instead of flats and I think more pictures should be added when bidding for a property, so we can actually see what we are bidding for, instead of going into a life long decision blindly.

Stop turning ex-student houses into mixed rent HMO's
This is a worse situation than having students, although there have been issues with students in the past, the majority of students are quite well behaved. Mixing up the occupants with all manner of people has and will always be a recipe for disaster. These tenants need to be managed in the correct manner. Generally this is affecting the Winton and Charminster area which is also a popular area for families, it is not fair that a hard working family pay for their mortgage each month and then have to suffer living next door to one of these HMO's.

Council and social housing options
Those that are in housing via bidding or mutual exchange need help finding and swapping not just through homeswap. Iv found over the years so many people are so strict on "wants" I think forgetting the house isn't there's and given to them that the demand for what they want is high. I feel that swaps needs to change in a number of ways. 1 more protection when swapping ie no pulling out. (iv seen endless people find a swap submitted paper work and then people pulling out right up to the morning of signing the papers) so maybe a 10day period but after no. 2 I feel like the houses need to be be maybe listed like when we bid for them in the first place Listed online and bid on. Also option for thoes in housing to big on places freeing up house were in ect. 3 Being able to pay monthly amounts toward buying it. 4) looking at amount time a kitchen, bathroom and doors ect need sorting out along with gardens as these have been a huge issue iv faced where the bathrooms not due for like 15yrs but needs doing as black mold from when moved in, doors falling apart ect.

Keeping it in the family
More and more these days our grown up children are having to continue living with their parents due to not being able to move out because of sky high rents and house prices which is a problem across Dorset, there should be some sort of scheme in place where existing council tenants can endorse a council tenancy for their children to help them move on with their lives when the time is right.

Change the social housing bidding system, it is cruel!
The current bidding system is a massive drain on mental health. Every week, logging on to the website to look for suitable properties. There is a tiny pixilated photo of approximately what the house looks like, from the front which is no good. The description includes only the most basic information which is no good to make a decision. There are no floor plans or energy rating information. Every week, looking and bidding in which we have to emotionally commit to potentially being offered a house we know little about, is cruel and unkind. We need pictures of the internal and external of the property. Everyone on the housing register has qualified because of a genuine housing need. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be treat with dignity and kindness when looking for our forever homes.

3 and 4 bedroom family homes
We need more social housing. I really think homes should be for life. People need to be able to put down roots, however there could be incentives to downsize once children have left home, with no pressure (not penalties) to to stay if they want. After all, parents have brought up children and have memories and roots. It would be cruel to force elderly people to leave their homes if they don't want to. We should value the work that parents do, not kick them out when they are done raising kids. We should definitely have good size gardens for properties, even for flats. Everyone should have an outdoor space to relax and grow plants/veggies. It is good for mental health and wellbeing. Housing estates should all have accessible allotment spaces too, to encourage a sense of community and self sufficiency. There just aren't enough community allotments in the BCP area!

BCP should prioritise people that are born & bred in this town & work in this town before outsiders come here for free housing.

Poole bus station redevelopment
This has been talked about for decades. The bus station is a massive blot on the landscape and is the first thing you see when visiting Poole. There's been talk about redevelopment of the site, making it a shared bus / pedestrian area, but nothing has happened. It had a £300k makeover >10 years ago, but still looks run down and attracts anti social behaviour and crime. Poole should follow Bournemouth by having a travel interchange. Move the train station, bus station and taxi rank, all into one. Currently, you have to walk between the bus and train stations and the taxi rank, is located on a roundabout (which in itself can be a bit precarious) Councils and Government want people to give up their cars and travel on public transport - it needs to be made convenient and as easy as possible, but also facilities need to be modern and clean and made more appealing.

Completely Redevelop Poole High street
Dolphin quays (for example) on Poole Quay has many brand new, empty units that have never been used in all the years it's been there. I would suggest moving the remaining businesses from the High Street to this location. Then completely bulldoze and redevelop Poole high Street. Get rid of the old, festering buildings. Build some new homes (not all crammed in together) and create somewhere that people want to visit and is nice to visit. Poole town needs a massive makeover and cash injection to make it 'A Beautiful place' once again. Less empty shops, charity shops and bargain basement shops.
