Reimagining your high streets

Consultation has concluded

High streets in towns, cities and district centres in the UK are changing. Even before COVID-19, high streets were continually in the news and public eye as a result of the rise in the number of empty shops and the significant departure of many renowned retail brands and the change in experience reported by visitors.

So, what are we doing locally?
BCP Council's Cabinet has agreed to work with partners to develop a strategy and action plan to support our high streets.

How has COVID-19 impacted plans?
Preceding Councils worked over many years, with key partners to proactively support and invest in their town centres in various ways.

COVID-19 has arguably sped up a process that was already underway and created a new reality. It has also provided an opportunity to bounce back better, together, to embrace the change, and to consider how best we can create, or curate, high streets that are fit for now and for the future.

Where do you come in?

Before we start working on the strategy we would like your views. We want you to try and look past what may currently be present in your high streets and think of its potential and how we can re-energise these areas.

Tell us:

  • what are your ideas for your high streets?
  • what do you think needs improving?
  • what would you like to see in your high streets?
  • what do you like about a particular high street?

Our high streets play a key role in creating a sense of place and they are the beating heart of our communities. Through developing a strategy we can reignite the excitement, personality and character of our high streets and create spaces that are meaningful to all who visit, work and enjoy.
