Help us create a long-term plan for Upton House to thrive
Maintaining this Grade II* listed Georgian Mansion House is an ongoing challenge.
BCP Council have undertaken major conservation of the parkland and created new facilities for visitors in recent years thanks to money from the National Lottery ‘Parks for People’ Fund.
Help us create a long-term sustainable plan for Upton House to thrive here at the heart of our community. We’d love to hear your ideas and opinions and invite you to share them with us.
Let’s talk about the future – please get involved. Leave your thoughts on our virtual ideas board below.
Our objectives
The Council is working with a team of specialists in the re-use of historic buildings to identify how we can bring Upton House back into full use and make it financially sustainable for the future. Our objectives are to;
- Find new, exciting uses for Upton House to bring it back to life and make it financially secure, with little need for subsidies.
- Make the House accessible to everyone in our community and beyond.
- Ensure the House and Country Park work well together and support each other.
- Create a strong vision that will attract the grants and funding needed to make the House viable.
- Keep local people involved in shaping the future of Upton House.

Other historic buildings have faced similar challenges and succeeded by using creative solutions. Here are some examples:
Next steps and how to get involved
We are asking you to share your ideas using the online ideas board below. The board will be open for new ideas until 08 February 2026. Some ideas to get you thinking include:
- A place to learn about heritage and culture
- Venue for functions, events, and special occasions
- A space for relaxation, leisure, and well-being
- Café or restaurant
- Learning, training, conferences, and meetings
- Accommodation for visitors
- Workspaces for businesses
- A mix of several uses
Please use the ideas board to let us know what these uses could look like, or any other ideas you might have.
We will consider the pros and cons of each idea, looking at things like costs, demand, accessibility and impact on the historic building. We will then draw up a shortlist of options which will be presented for consultation in Spring 2026.
