What is the Learning Disability Big Plan?
The Learning Disability Big Plan is about helping adults with learning disabilities in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
We had an old plan, but now we have made a new one and want to know what you think.
The new Learning Disability Big Plan explains what the Council and NHS do to help people.
It also tells you a bit about Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Dorset.

What happened so far?
- We made a plan and got groups of people together to help.
- We looked at what worked well before and listened to people at special meetings.
- We learned from other councils to see what good ideas they had.
Listening to you
Lots of people helped us make the Big Plan:
- We held special meetings in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch so people could share their ideas.
- Some people sent their answers by post.
- 157 people joined in. This included people with learning disabilities, their families and carers, council staff and providers.
- Everyone talked about what is most important to them.
You all agreed that the 7 Big Aims continue to be the right ones.

What you told us
- Having different choices for where to live is good.
- Pictures and simple words, moving your body and eating healthy food help you stay well.
- Having a job, making friends and going out are important for a happy life.
- Getting help from kind people who listen to you is important.
- Learning how to be safe online and feeling safe on buses and in your town helps you feel safe.
- Families need information, places to rest, and groups to help carers.
- Getting help when you grow up and knowing what will happen next is important.
- Family, friends, being healthy and making your own choices matter most.
How to tell us what you think?
There are different ways to fill in this survey.
You can:
- Fill in the online survey by 29 March 2026. This is an easy read survey and is best completed on a computer.
- Get a paper copy from your local library
- Get a paper copy from the Boscombe, Christchurch or Parkstone Connect services
- Download a paper copy from this page
- Email bcp.ldpartnershipboard@bcpcouncil.gov.uk for a paper copy
What if I need some help?
If you need help, you can ask:
- A family member or carer
- A friend
- A support worker
- Staff at your library
- Staff at the Boscombe, Christchurch or Parkstone Connect services
What do I do with my filled-in survey?
You can:
- Put it in a “Have your say” box at your local library
- Hand it in at the Boscombe, Christchurch or Parkstone Connect services

The Learning Disability Big Plan Consultation, Research and Consultation Team, BCP Council, Town Hall, Bourne Avenue, Bournemouth, BH2 6DY
The consultation closes on Sunday 29 March 2026.
What happens next:
- In February and March, we will ask people what they think about our plan.
- We will write a report about what people say in the spring.
- We will work together with everyone to make the plan even better.
- Councillors will check and agree the plan in Summer 2026.
- In the Autumn we will start making the plan happen.
