Schools Admissions 2027-2028
We want to make it as easy and clear as possible for you to apply for a school place, and to understand what happens once we receive your application.
Our admissions policy explains the process in detail, including what we do if there are more applications than places available. In those cases, we use clear oversubscription criteria to decide how places are allocated. Each school also has a published admission number. This is the number of places available at the main point of entry (September), and it's included in the policy.
Whenever changes are proposed to a school’s admission arrangements, we’re required to consult with the public before any decisions are made. This consultation gives everyone the chance to share their views and help shape the final policy.
BCP Council Community and Voluntary Controlled (VC) Schools
We currently have a single admissions policy for our community and voluntary controlled schools, and we’d like to hear your views on proposed changes.
We’re the admission authority for:
- Burton C of E Primary School
- Mudeford Community Infants School
- Mudeford Junior School
- Somerford Primary School
We’re proposing to reduce the Published Admission Number (PAN) at Burton from 45 to 30. Forecasts show that from September 2027, no more than 30 places will be needed at the school. This reflects a wider trend of fewer families seeking school places in the area due to falling birth rates. If demand increases again in future, the PAN can be raised to meet local need.
We’ve also clarified the definition of priority for children of staff in the oversubscription criteria. This update applies to all four schools listed above.
The consultation runs from Monday 10 November 2025 to Monday 22 December 2025.
Comments or objections can be emailed to school.admissions@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
We value your feedback and thank you for taking the time to share your views.
