Plan for Play
Our vision
"To provide high quality, accessible, safe and inclusive play spaces, where everyone of all abilities, across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, can learn, have fun and be active through play.
All ages and abilities should feel safe, confident and excited to use our play spaces as part of leading fulfilled lives with brighter futures."

Your views made a difference
In the autumn we looked carefully at what you told us. We checked the budget and tried out different ideas to find a plan that works financially and reflects your concerns.
Because of your feedback, we’ve made changes. Some sites we originally planned to repurpose will now stay as play spaces so they can keep serving your community.
Below you’ll see two sections. The first shows where proposals have been revised, with a short note explaining why. The second lists the sites where repurposing will still go ahead, so you can see the full picture of how your input shaped the outcome.
We’ll keep you updated as work starts and continue listening to your views.
Where we have made changes
Mallard Road - Your feedback and funding support from BCP Homes mean this play space will be refurbished.
Anchor Close - This play space will also be refurbished thanks to BCP Homes funding.
Duck Lane - We’re recommending funding in a later phase to create a transitional skate area. This will help younger and new riders build confidence and will replace the current skate ramp at Poole Lane.
Hasler Road play spaces - One of the Hasler Road play spaces will be refurbished following your feedback and funding secured from BCP Homes in a later phase.
Keeble Road and Mandale Road - At Keeble Road, the existing play equipment will be repaired until it reaches the end of its life. Mandale Road will stay open, with plans to secure major funding later for a large scale replacement.
Pelhams Park and Long Road - Long Road’s play equipment will be repaired in phase one. Pelhams Park will see partial refurbishment in phase one, with further refurbishments planned for phase two.
Bradpole Road - In response to your feedback, Bradpole Road will no longer be repurposed. Instead, it’s scheduled for a full refurbishment in a later phase.
Chesildene Avenue, Epiphany School and Knowlton Gardens - All existing play equipment will be kept in use by repairing it as needed until it reaches the end of its life.
Noyce Gardens - Noyce Gardens will see a full replacement of equipment in its current location after residents shared they didn’t want it relocated to Ibbertson Road.
Riverlands - We’ll explore all funding options for Riverlands to ensure a play space is maintained within the vicinity of its current location after more than 200 responses were received as part of the consultation process.
Where repurposing will still go ahead
Cornish Gardens, Cunningham Crescent, Deacon Road, Riggs Gardens, Springwater Road, Gunville Crescent, Rownhams Road, Stratton Road, Swansbury Drive, Boscombe Edwardian Gardens, and Campbell Road - These sites will be repurposed following community feedback. Larger refurbishment work will take place at play spaces within close walking distance to each of these sites and, where possible, repurposing won’t take place until after those refurbishments are complete.
The Rookery, Strouden Park - The play spaces at The Rookery and Strouden Park will both be repurposed at later phases with the addition of playable landscaping.
Millfield, Sherborn Crescent, Poole Lane and Noyce Gardens - BMX equipment at Millfield, skate at Sherborn Crescent, timber ramps at Poole Lane and the timber ramp at Noyce Gardens will also be repurposed but the sites will all receive broader repairs and refurbishment.
Thank you for helping shape these plans. Your feedback has made a real difference.
