Lane Rental Scheme
This consultation has now closed.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views. All feedback received during the consultation was considered by Cabinet at its meeting on 4 March.
The Cabinet report and supporting papers are available to view on our Democracy website.
At the meeting, Cabinet agreed to approve the submission of an application to the Secretary of State for Transport to establish and operate a Lane Rental Scheme across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Subject to approval from the Secretary of State, Cabinet also agreed that the establishment and operation of the scheme would be delegated to the Service Director for Planning and Transport, in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Climate Mitigation, Energy and Environment.
The Cabinet minutes can also be viewed on our Democracy website.
BCP Council is considering plans to introduce a Lane Rental Scheme on a proportion of its road network.
We are considering this to encourage utility companies and contractors, including our own works teams, to plan work more effectively so that less time is needed to complete them and where possible more work is carried out at quieter times.
We believe this will help manage the impact of works on the highway network on some of the busiest roads at the busiest times, reducing delays for residents & businesses.
To introduce a scheme, a detailed application must be approved by the Department for Transport (DfT). Initial work undertaken indicates that there could be significant benefits to the council introducing a Lane Rental Scheme. So before submitting a proposal, we are consulting on a draft scheme to inform if/how it should be implemented.
