Bus Service Improvement Plan - Purewell
BCP Council is seeking your views on its Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) proposals for Purewell. These proposals aim to improve the reliability of bus services, as well as reduce congestion and improve journeys for all road users.
Taking account of the feedback received during Stage 1 engagement, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has refined the proposals and is now undertaking a Stage 2 statutory Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) consultation.
The proposals have been developed to improve traffic flow and bus reliability by providing additional passing places for buses whilst retaining as much parking provision as possible.
The Stage 2 proposals include:
- The removal of daytime parking at Parking Sections 3 and 4, replaced with a 'No Waiting' restriction between 10am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
- The extension of Parking Section 5 to provide additional parking provision.
- The reduction in length of Parking Section 10 to create a new passing place whilst retaining parking closest to local businesses.
- The retention of all other parking sections.
- Amendments to existing time-restricted parking arrangements, maintaining a maximum stay of 30 minutes whilst increasing the 'no return' period from 30 minutes to one hour.
- Retention of parking outside restricted hours, including evenings and Sundays.
These proposals seek to improve bus journey reliability and reduce delays on a corridor that accommodates more than 46,000 bus journeys each year, while responding to the key themes raised during Stage 1 engagement.

Engagement Report
An engagement report has been prepared to summarise the feedback received through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) Stage 1 Engagement Survey. The report sets out the key findings from the engagement process and highlights the views, priorities and suggestions raised by respondents.
The feedback received has been carefully reviewed and has informed the ongoing development of the BSIP proposals. The findings from this stage of engagement has helped shape the proposals that will be taken forward as part of the forthcoming Stage 2 statutory consultation, ensuring that stakeholder and community feedback continues to inform the development of the scheme.
