Kinship Care Local Offer Consultation

We know that when family or friends step in to care for a child, it is a big and generous commitment. It can also happen suddenly, during a time of change, uncertainty or crisis.

Children often do best when they can stay with people they know and trust. Our role is to make sure you, your child, and your wider family can access the right support at the right time and feel confident providing a safe and stable home.

Children and young people should be listened to and involved in decisions that affect their lives.

The Local Offer is here to help you understand what support you can get and to make sure you feel informed, supported and listened to. It sets out:

• what kinship care is
• what families can expect at each stage of their journey
• the different ways it can be arranged
• what support is available
• how the council will work alongside carers, children and families to support them
• where to access help

It is for:

• kinship carers
• children and young people
• birth parents
• professionals supporting families

Whether your arrangement is informal or formal, short-term or long-term, we want you to feel supported, informed, and confident in your role.
