There has been a shortfall in taxation of online businesses. The pandemic has put more reliance on such companies for their products. However, taxation has been somewhat lacklustre which needs to be stopped. The online business should be taxed correctly for the sale of its goods in order that more money is put into the public spending pot. This money can then be distributed accordingly to local government to help improve infrastructure. By using online services we are heating up the planet to power huge data centres (both in the heat they generate and the power they consume). The average google search requires the same amount of energy a LED 60 watt equivalent lamp needs to power for nearly 10 days. By taxing large corporations we can help reinvest into our economy and help a green recovery. Let’s face it we only have one planet.

As a country which appeared to pioneer changes to avoid the #climatecrisis, with the Prime Minster now granting permission to mine for coal, regardless of its intention to sell, this is not great on our country’s perception to the rest of the world. Drew Mellor and other MPs should fight this as no good will come of this!! We should be investing into new energy technologies not digging up old ones. Again for the sake of profit. The industries in which the PM is looking to sell the coal to (metal works, etc) have other means to heat up the bore, it should be on the private companies to invest their monies into the techniques that avoid the burning of coal. Not for the U.K. public to finance or suffer for the sake of another private companies profits.

There appears to be an uptick in the amount of fly tipping, either with mattresses or building stuff. BCP council should therefore lower costs of waste disposal or other incentives to help reduce this to ascertain the reason why fly tipping is happening. The cost involved for removing a fly tip can be anything between £1,000 to £5,000. The cost to investigate on. Regular reoccurrence is approximately the same. However, the cost of disposing similar fly tipping items correctly is between £200-£400. Again wasting public funds and resources.

Plant wildflower seeds in central reservations to help attract more bees and insects. These could be planted in “rough grasses” or n the edges of parks as well to help increase bee population and it looks nice! Provide more education to the public to help reduce vandalism of said things, using social media videos.

Work with business such as TerraCycle to place deposit points for items that can be collected and recycled. TerraCycle offer collection points where someone may deposit particular items to be recycled by the manufacturer, such as BIC biros, these can be dropped off to a school near Rossmore School (I believe). Rather than places like schools and other remote locations, BCP should create recycle centres for things that can be recycled by TerraCycle in a central location.
