Day Opportunities Review 2022

Consultation has concluded

Day opportunities are services and activities available to adults with a care need. BCP Council has a range of day opportunities for people including those with dementia, autism, mental, physical, sensory and learning disabilities. We are reviewing the day opportunities we offer and we want to hear from you to help plan for the future.

Day opportunities can mean different things to different people. They can be about learning new skills, taking part in lots of different hobbies and interests, taking part in the community, supported employment and volunteering. Further education such as colleges are not included.

Day opportunities includes day services and day centres. Day services and day centres are usually linked to activities in a building, sometimes called ‘building based services’.

We want to hear from you

We want to involve all people who may have an interest in day opportunities, to help everyone work together to make a new plan for the future.

We know that people who use or are connected to a day opportunity are the best people to help provide information to make changes for the future.

How to get involved

We would like to know about your experience of day opportunities, what works well and what doesn't and about what day opportunities you would like in the future. This will help us to make plans for the future of day opportunities.

Complete our online questionnaire for service users and carers You can complete this questionnaire even if you don't currently use day opportunities but think you might want to in the future. If you are a carer for someone who needs your help to complete the questionnaire, please answer from their perspective. If you wish to share your own views, you may complete a second questionnaire from your own perspective.

Complete our easy read online questionnaire - this is the same as the one above but in an easy read format. You may find it helps to download the Easy Read Questionnaire document to view alongside the online survey

Complete our questionnaire for professionals - use this one if your job involves working with people who use day opportunities

To request a paper copy of any of these questionnaires, please contact kevin.gillings@bcpcouncil.gov.uk or robin.chater@bcpcouncil.gov.uk

What happens next?

We will look at everything people have said, to help us write our Day Opportunities Plan. This will be published on www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk in 2023. We have a co-production group made up of users and providers of day opportunities, carers, service user led organisations, professionals from NHS Dorset and other local authorities and councillors to help us write our Day Opportunities Plan. If you would like to join this working group, please contact Kevin Gillings, Commissioning Manager, Day Opportunities, BCP Council on kevin.gillings@bcpcouncil.gov.uk
